Team Building Ideas
Whether you are the leader of a team building company or a college football coach, you are going to want some ideas on how to bring your team together. A team can be made up of several different types of people: coworkers, team mates, student bodies, organizations and communities. All of these people work together on a daily basis, and need to know how to interact and behave properly.
Each person who is part of the team brings in something different. It is the need to embrace what others can bring to the table that makes team building so important. Some great team building ideas are:
Team building ideas: Strategies You Can Use
Define a good leader:
Part of the reason a team may not perform as good as expected is the leadership. It is the job of the leader to direct and supervise. If a team member is not doing as they should, it is the responsibility of the leader to step in and take control. When the leader has full control, and knows how to use that control the team will benefit from it.
In order to find out how each team works, it is important to do a mock work flow. By doing this you will be able to see how the team works together. In a smaller team of three or four every member will be accountable for part of the process. When one of the members struggles to catch-up or continue, how do the others react?
Allow employees to get out of the office and enjoy some fresh air by playing games like cricket, flag football, relay races, volleyball, etc. Not only are these fun activities, but they also demonstrate the importance of team dynamics. Make sure you mix up the teams a bit – have employees who don’t work with each other on the same team.
Start a tradition:
Traditions create a sense of foundation and allegiance. Perhaps your department welcome’s newcomers by making them wear a distinctive name tag or pin. Maybe there’s a trinket or plaque someone must keep with them if they’re the newest members of the team. No matter what your tradition entails, it will help create a sense of acceptance and camaraderie. It can be something you take very seriously, or it can be fun and silly.
Recognize and celebrate:
Recognizing co-workers by honoring birthdays, work anniversaries, or the completion of a complicated project bolsters the team and facilitates team-building. This doesn’t mean that you must do all the planning or pay for all the supplies. For example, for birthdays, you can set up a schedule in which the person who had the last birthday must be responsible for buying a cake, getting a card, etc. for the next co-worker’s birthday. This way, everyone equally contributes, and the question of who will get the celebration supplies is automatically answered.
Have everyone write down what they really think of the way the team works together. This way you can get a better perspective on what the people within the team are thinking.
Finding new and exciting team building ideas, can be a hard job. There are many resources online and within most corporations HR departments on how to build team spirit and create a more cohesive working environment. There are companies who can come into your workplace, in order to create a better sense of comradery.
There is a great saying when it comes to team building ideas. “We will never be better as a team than we are with each other.” Help your team realize that no matter what team they work with, there will be issues and struggles. Working with the team you already have, will better you for the next.
“Cooperate: to work or act together or jointly for a Common purpose or benefit; to work or act with another person or persons willingly and agreeably”
